Healthy Habits Game Link

Healthy Habits Game Link

Learn how the human body needs to stay healthy in order to grow properly with this fun, interactive game for kids. Use water, food, exercise and rest to provide a human with what they need to for proper health and growth. Ben needs a good balance of these things if he is to grow into a strong, healthy adult. Without water he will get dehydrated, without food he will get hungry and weak, without rest he will get tired and without exercise he will get lazy. Do what you can to make sure Ben lives a healthy life with this fun human body health and growth activity for kids.

Ch. 5 Review Guide (4G.)

4th Grade Science
Study Guide – Chapter 5: Matter
212° F – temperature at which water boils

Gravity – the force that draws things toward the center of the earth
32° F – freezing and melting point of water / ice

Hail – frozen raindrops that have been blown back into the cloud to form more frozen layers

Air mass – a large body of air that has the same temperature and humidity

Humidity – the amount of water vapor in the air

Atmosphere – layer of air surrounding the earth, extending 1,000 miles, its weight
creates air pressure

Matter – anything that takes up space and has weight

Condensation – the process of changing water vapor into liquid water

Molecules – the smallest piece of a substance that still has the qualities of that substance

Dew point – the temperature water condenses

Nimbus – a storm or rain cloud
Energy – the ability to do work

Nitrogen – the gas that makes up most of the air
Evaporation – the process by which liquid water becomes water vapor
Precipitation – any form of water that falls from clouds to earth

Fog – a cloud on the ground
Snow – frozen water vapor formed in clouds
Force – the push or pull on an object
Water
1. covers ¾ of the earth
2. made of hydrogen and oxyge

Surface tension – the tight fitting together of water molecules near the water’s surface;
because water has a high surface tension, objects will float in it
Three States of Matter – you will be given a list of things to identify as either solid,
liquid or gas
  1. solid
  • molecules are packed close together
  • molecules vibrate but do not move from place to place
  • has a definite shape
  1. liquid
  • molecules are spread out
  • molecules vibrate rapidly and move around one another
  • has no shape of its own, but will take on the shape of a container
  1. gas
  • molecules are very spaced apart
  • has the fastest moving molecules
  • has no shape of its own and does not fill up a fixed amount of space
Heat causes molecules to move more rapidly.
The energy in steam comes from heat.
Also study cloud formations, the water cycle, and bird identification sent home with the study guide.

4G. Science Review Packet (Ch.1-4)

Students,

This is a cumulative review and also includes the next chapter (4) that we are just now starting this week. I posted it as an early resource and studying tool. Click this link to go to the review packet.

Matter Song for Science! :)

Matter has mass and takes up space
It’s everything you see, touch and taste
Matter is made of tiny molecules and atoms
Elements with protons, neutrons and electrons
Matter is the stuff that is all around
Scientists have found some things that don’t count
Matter cannot be a form of energy
Like wind, sound, light or heat
Matter has mass and takes up space
Solid, liquid, gas are the three different states
Matter has properties that tell what it’s like
It goes through physical and chemical changes, that’s right!
Solid, liquid, gas are the three different states
These phases of matter change what the matter makes
If water’s solid it’s ice, if it’s liquid it’s water
If the water is a gas then it turns to water vapor
Melting is going from a solid to a liquid
Evaporating is going from a liquid to a gas
Condensation is going from a gas to a liquid
Freezing is going from a liquid to a solid
Matter has properties that tell what it’s like
We make careful observations to help us describe
Mass, Volume, Density, and Pressure
Size, Shape, Texture, and Temperature
Properties of matter can be chemical
If oxidation takes place or if something is flammable
Matter can never be destroyed or created
A new substance can form with a chemical reaction
In a physical change, the object stays the same
You can fold it, bend it, cut it, but the object still remains
A physical change doesn’t really change the matter
The matter just moves from one state to another
In a chemical change, a new substance is created
You can rust it, burn it, cook it, but you can’t reverse it
In a chemical change something new will form
Energy is given off or energy is absorbed
Thanks to Have Fun Teaching for the song and lyrics.
